Article published in the British soccer publication the Blizzard. The story of the Chicago Bricklayers, a team founded by Chicago's active Bricklayer's Union in 1910's, is emblematic of soccer in the United States. The team was made up of players born in the US as well as immigrants recruited to play for the team. They rose to prominence in the late 1920's, reaching the finals of the United States Open Cup on two occasions and competing with touring international teams such as Uruguay's Nacional.
The team's success attracted the Chicago area department store, Weiboldt's, which agreed to sponsor the team and renamed them the Weiboldt Wonderbolts. The team continued to be competitive on the field, but finances forced the team disband.
